Komodo Dragon

That’s not an iguana!  It’s a real live Komodo Dragon and I am just a few feet in front of him!  I shot this guy on the island of Komodo in Indonesia’s Nusa Tengarra region.  He was not the most cooperative portrait subject – he kept charging me!

I was traveling on the island of Flores and the opportunity to see the dragons just kind of presented itself, so I decided to take a detour from my search for surf.  A group of travelers from all over the world including, me, the lone American, hired a dodgy boat for a week and set sail for the islands where the Dragons live.  See the Komodo Dragons in their natural habitat was an incredible experience, but I think I enjoyed being on that boat with all the travelers and diving some of the most beautiful reef I have ever seen (incredible soft corals)!  This was a great trip!  Get out there!
